Nothing Lasts Forever is the book that inspired Die Hard. Even though John McClain is still alive, he too will not last forever. Average dental work lasts 5-7 years and all insurance companies will pay for replacement after 5 years, so the typical lifespan of dental work is 5 years. Our expectation of our work is much higher, in hopes that it lasts 10-15 years ,with good home care and regular checkups.
The length that your dental work lasts can be vastly improved with good home care and periodic dental visits, tailored to your needs. You need to ask questions and understand all of your options and what your dentist feels is the anticipated lifespan of dental restorations. In the case of implants, the actual implant into the bone likely will last forever, but the crown over that implant will likely not last more than 10-15 years. Just like tires on a car, the constant wear and tear takes a toll. Not unlike walking and running, people wear their teeth differently. Find out what your wear is and what could be causing additional wear to your teeth! We get one permanent set, don’t take them for granted!
