Abfractions are characteristic of a notch in the tooth at the gumline.  Even though it may take years for them to become sensitive, it is constantly causing harm to the tooth and structure. You can relate it to a tile floor that has lost the grout. The enamel is slightly softer at the gum line and the microscopic pressure from bruxism (clenching and grinding) slowly chips away at the tooth.  The best tip is always use a soft toothbrush!  If you are seeing signs of abfractions, give us a call!
