Conditions May Vary

At Weisbard Dental, we are often asked the same questions by many of our patients, and we hope that by answering some of the more commonly asked questions here on our blog, we can address some of the concerns or reservations you may have before seeking out more information about a dental treatment or procedure. However, it is always important to remember that “one size fits all” answers, especially in regards to dental procedures and surgeries, are rarely that – the condition of teeth and gums vary greatly from patient to patient, and different patients have different expectations of dental procedures. While a certain answer may apply to many of our patients, rarely is it applied to all.

Do You Need Braces? It Depends

The question of whether or not orthodontic treatments, such as braces or retainers, are required to realign and/or straighten teeth before veneers or implants are applied is somewhat tricky. In many cases it is ideal to move and align teeth before implants or veneers are installed, but for some patients it is unnecessary, and in other cases dental implants and veneers are deliberately installed before orthodontic treatments as anchors for other teeth. The most important fact to remember is that dental implants are permanent, and they cannot move the way that natural teeth do during orthopedic treatments. Also, both crowns and veneers can be used to properly align teeth as well. Because there are a variety of treatments and solutions that can be applied to move, straighten and ultimately fix your teeth, it is necessary to consult with your dentist and/or orthodontist before finalizing a treatment plan.
